Frequently Asked Questions

  • We specialize in behavior concerns like generalized anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding, noise phobias, stranger danger, and other challenges that go beyond basic obedience. If you’re unsure whether your case is a fit, feel free to fill out the consultation request form on the home page — We’ll review each case personally before booking. We are not currently taking on cases of inter-dog aggression (two dogs in the same home who can’t be around one another). We also have a wait list for separation anxiety cases.

  • Private training and behavior modification. No group classes or board & train is available at this time.

  • Most of my work is virtual. It’s highly effective, lower stress for animals, addresses the concern in a more authentic way where real life is happening and allows me to support clients regardless of location. I do occasionally offer in-home sessions when appropriate and local. We’ll discuss what works best for you during the initial consult.

  • I use evidence-based, positive reinforcement training rooted in compassion and respect. I do not use punishment-based methods or tools that rely on fear or pain. My focus is on helping both dogs and humans feel more confident and connected. Long-lasting behavior change relies on getting to the root of the issue and it’s motivation, instead of relying on suppression, which tends to allow for issues to resurface later.

  • Every dog (and every behavior) is different. Think of behavior change like learning a new instrument — it takes time, consistent practice, and the right guidance. I’ll support you with realistic goals and steady progress at a pace that fits your dog’s needs. With concerns that have resulted in significant anxiety, fear or stress, I often tell my clients to think in months, not weeks.

  • Because animals are sentient beings and behavior is complex and affected by so many factors out of our control, no ethical trainer can promise behavior outcomes. What we can guarantee is professional, humane, effective support.

  • I’m based in Iowa and serve the Des Moines Metro area, but thanks to virtual training, I work with clients across the U.S. and beyond. Location is not a barrier — if we’re a good fit, we can work together no matter where you are.

  • Book an initial consultation! All clients must do an initial consult before any further packages can be purchased. We take a detailed history, set realistic goals, and create a personalized management plan to get you started on your journey.

  • All initial consults are conducted virtually over Zoom—it's convenient, reduces distractions, and sets us up for success.

  • This is a very common question! My colleagues over at Pet Harmony Animal Behavior & Training address that concern with this awesome blog post: “Your Pet is Not Like Your Car”

  • The initial consultation lasts around 60–90 minutes and is $150. It includes a detailed summary report and resources to get you started, which you will receive within a week of the consultation itself. Packages for training will be recommended.

  • Once a consultation has been completed, we make a recommendation of packages (discounted bundles of a certain number of sessions) based on what we think you may need to reach your goals. Sessions last between 30-45 minutes in length a piece (this can depend on each animal’s learning pace) and individual sessions cost $125. Each session is followed up with a short session report that recaps what you should be working on and provides video demos and resources that coincide with your current steps in the process.
