Who we are
The Yellow Brick Road wasn’t a shortcut. It was a journey — full of challenges, discovery, and growth. That’s what behavior change is like for animals and their people.
Our approach is rooted in understanding behavior rather than simply suppressing it. We use evidence-based, humane strategies that prioritize safety, emotional well-being, and your relationship with your companion.
That means we'll never ask you to use fear, pain, intimidation, or punishment to change behavior. Instead, we'll work together to understand what's driving the behavior and build practical skills that work for both of you.
There’s no magic wand, no fast fix. But there is a path. One built on understanding, trust, and compassionate guidance.
That’s what we do here. We walk it together — step by step. No ruby slippers required, just the desire to learn, the heart to connect, and the courage to keep going until you’re where you need to be.
Your journey towards a better life starts here.

What you can expect from us
Understanding before intervention
We'll work to understand why a behavior is happening and what is contributing to it before deciding how to address it.
Compassion without judgment
You don't need to arrive with perfect handling skills, a perfect training history, or a perfectly behaved animal. We're here to help.
Practical, individualized plans
Your plan needs to work in your actual life—not just on paper.
Collaboration, not compliance
We'll teach you what we're doing and why, so you can make informed decisions and feel confident helping your companion.
No quick fixes or magic formulas
Behavior change takes time. We'll work at a pace that considers your animal's emotional needs as well as your family's capacity.

A few things to know:
Initial consultations are conducted virtually via Zoom. From there, in-person support may be available as part of a training package, depending on your location, your companion’s individual needs, and what will best support their learning. We’ll work together to determine what format makes the most sense for you and your companion.
Inter-dog aggression cases are not currently accepted. This includes dogs living in the same household who are fighting.
Separation anxiety cases are currently waitlisted.
If your concern falls into one of these categories, please email TrainWithYellowBrick@gmail.com for a referral rather than submitting a consultation request.

-VanDrimmelen Family
-

“She was thorough, patient, clever, kind and she loved Gracie like her own. I knew after a few sessions things were getting better and Gracie was getting what she needed and all was gonna be OK. Fast forward three years later and my Gracie is one of the most well behaved, gentle, socialized dogs there is.”
-Gracie’s Family
-

“Jolene has been incredible to work with. She has such expertise as well as empathy and this has enabled me to make significant progress with my pups.”
-Scott Family
-

"I've learned so much about how to coexist with our fur farm, including our cats. And Jolene has never suggested things to us that are not very actionable and reasonable. Even so, when something has not quite worked , she tweaks it so it does work for us. She understands people and their pets"
-Stillian & Cunningham Family
-

"Jolene is nothing short of fantastic to work with. Jolene's passion and knowledge is nothing short of amazing. Together, we worked through our rescue Luna's separation anxiety, but we more importantly learned how to better understand what our doggo was trying to tell us...It's been a total game changer."
-Luna’s Family
-

"I did not know I could interact and enjoy the companionship of a dog like I do now. Jolene taught me the rationale behind different behaviors, the motivation, and how to redirect the motivation. In addition to enjoying success, I appreciate that this success comes from a place of cooperation and understanding rather than power- or fear-based approaches."
-Charlie’s Family

"Old dogs can learn new tricks! Jolene helped my little old man learn some new beneficial ques. She also helped me manage some of his undesirable behaviors like resource guarding! With my other dog who is a perfect angel, we got to learn ques and also some ways to keep my cats from bugging her while she eats. 😅 I would recommend Jolene to anyone and everyone!"
